MODULAR GLOVE BAG
Problem to resolve:
Upon withdrawing of heat-proofing materials containing asbestos from boilers, tanks and pipes of very large dimensions, workers are exposed to asbestos dust and other contaminants. Normally, for jobs generating more than 0.3 m3 of debris, the high-risk protocol is required. Not only do risks of errors remain, but also the risk of falling due to the presence of wet surfaces produced during the procedure.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES AND RESULTS:
The technicians and the employer devised a modular glove bag to provide an additional physical barrier between contaminants and workers. The latter is made of a translucent anti-tear plastic. Its usage is combined with a dust suppressant wetting agent. Its dimensions are adaptable to different shapes and sizes of equipment. Moreover, the bag allows working on tanks, boilers or pipes of very large dimensions, which makes it possible not to suspend operations in a mechanical room. This innovation allows a shift from a high-risk protocol to a moderate-risk protocol, while eliminating cross-contamination.
